If you walk through the halls of Convio this month, you’re going to notice a little more facial hair on the upper lips of some of us “Mo Bros.” That’s because Movember has caught on strong and the ‘Staches are growing out over the course of November to support the Movember Foundation. The objective of the Movember Foundation is to raise awareness of men’s health issues and to raise funds for orgs that are doing work to improve the state of men’s health. This year in the US, the efforts are benefiting the Prostate Cancer Foundation and LIVESTRONG.
Why don a mustache for a month or donate to someone who is trying to groom a stylish ‘Mo in just 30 days? If you check out some of the facts on the Movember Men’s health page, it becomes pretty clear:
- 1 in 2 men will be diagnosed with cancer in their lifetime
- 1 in 6 men will be diagnosed with prostate cancer in their lifetime
- An estimated 8.7 million adult men over the age of 20 in the US have diabetes- and a third do not know it.
This is a great way to start a conversation, raise some funds for a couple of great causes, and have an excuse to mix up your shaving regimen. There are fourteen Convio employees who have joined the Convio Mo’s team, and a number of us who are on an Austin based team. If you’d like to donate to support me personally, you’ll find my fundraising page at: http://us.movember.com/mospace/582996/
